Professor Glenn Knoll has had a long-standing connection with the Department of Physics at Surrey, and we are grateful to him for this message of support for the new RDI MSc programme:
"The establishment of a new MSc course in Radiation Detection and Instrumentation in the Physics Department at the University of Surrey is an important addition to academic opportunities for students to enter this growing area of technology. In addition to long-established applications in radiation physics, nuclear engineering, and medical imaging, the use of radiation instrumentation to monitor movement of nuclear materials for international security purposes has recently taken on great importance."
"The course director, Dr. Paul Sellin, is someone I am proud to count as a friend and colleague. He has demonstrated his strong leadership in the radiation instrumentation community through years of innovative research that I have closely followed. My personal ties to the University of Surrey trace back to a semester-long sabbatical period spent in the Physics Department 35 years ago, and I have maintained close contact with its faculty and programs through frequent visits ever since. I feel that the Department is ideally suited to mount this new initiative. In so doing, it will be meeting a compelling need to provide graduates who have a strong background in the science and technology of a field that is of increasing significance in our world."
