The Medical Physics Lab is a valuable resource for Surrey University Medical Physics PhD students, allowing them to conduct supervised research into cutting-edge applications and the basis of radiation diagnosis, therapy, radiation effects and radiation protection. Examples include study of three-photon annihilation imaging, proton-induced x-ray emission (PIXE) analyses of tissues, optical-fibre thermoluminescence dosimetry, the effects of ionising radiation on extracellular matrix, studies of the bone-cartilage interface using x-ray fluorescence and simulation studies of therapeutic radiation beams by Monte Carlo techniques.
