Nuclear Structure Laboratory

This nuclear structure laboratory is set up to develop and test advanced radiation detectors developed by the TIARA and CHARISSA collaborations (and underpinning experiments at accelerator laboratories in France, Germany, Belgium, Australia, Canada and the USA), as well as to investigate other types of radiation detector. A one-metre diameter vacuum chamber and a multichannel data acquisition system – configurable up to 128 channels including preamplifiers, amplifiers and digitisation of time and energy – are available for the development and characterisation of new detector types. Another similar but smaller system is used for more specialised work. Facilities are also provided for studying digital signal processing with radiation detectors.
