One of the major facilities of the Physics Departments' Photonics group is the Ultrafast Laser Laboratory. Located in the Advanced Technology Institute, the lab houses amplifed femtosecond laser systems producing intense light pulses with duration as short as 50x10-15 seconds at wavelengths from the ultraviolet to the mid infrared. The lasers are used for studies of electron dynamics in solids, electron spin times, nonlinear optical properties, and for patterning of materials.
